Security surveillance footage has played a crucial role in exposing the alleged theft of a newborn baby at the Mamprobi Polyclinic in Accra, leading to the arrest of a suspect and the safe recovery of the child.
The Ghana Police Service confirmed the arrest of a woman who allegedly posed as a nurse to carry out the act. CCTV footage from the health facility reportedly captured the suspect carrying the newborn and calmly exiting the premises with what appeared to be a sack. The video has since gone viral on social media, sparking widespread public concern.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, shortly after the baby’s mother had delivered via caesarean section. The disappearance of the newborn triggered panic among hospital staff, patients, and relatives, prompting an immediate alert to security authorities.
Police say the suspect is currently in custody and actively assisting with investigations, while the baby has been safely recovered and reunited with the family, bringing relief to the parents and the surrounding community.
In a related development, police also intercepted a truck transporting about 3,000 slabs of substances suspected to be cannabis and reportedly rejected a GH¢150,000 bribe allegedly linked to the case, reinforcing law enforcement’s commitment to tackling organized crime and corruption.
Investigations into both cases are ongoing.
