Ghanaian Startup Octagram Tech Launches MoMoGram to Speed Up Mobile Money Agents

ACCRA — For Ghana's mobile money agents, the busiest hours of the day often look the same: a growing queue, a customer waiting impatiently, and an agent re-dialling a long USSD code for the third time before scribbling the transaction into a worn notebook.

An Accra-based software company says it has built a way out. Octagram Tech, a Ghanaian firm headquartered in Madina, has released MoMoGram – MoMo Agent Manager, an Android app that automates the dialling and record-keeping behind everyday agent transactions on MTN MoMo, Telecel Cash and AirtelTigo Money.

The pitch is simple. The agent types the amount and the customer's number, taps the transaction, and confirms with their own PIN. MoMoGram handles the USSD steps and saves the record. The company says this lets agents work up to 20 times faster and serve more customers, ending the era of pen-and-paper books at the kiosk.

One app for every MoMo task

MoMoGram brings the core agent services onto a single screen: Cash In, Cash Out, Airtime Transfer, Pay to Merchant, Balance Enquiry and Commission Enquiry.

Beyond speed, the app targets the daily headaches that cost agents money:

Smart SIM routing. Agents can run up to three agent SIMs on one phone. The app reads the customer's number and picks the right network's SIM, the company says, even for ported numbers.
Fraud warnings. Numbers reported by other agents trigger a warning the moment they are typed, giving the agent a chance to stop before sending.
Float and cash tracker. Agents can see how much e-float and physical cash they should have at any moment, so they can top up before they run dry.
Commission tracker. Earnings for the day and the month are recorded, so agents know their real income.
Automatic records. Every transaction is saved with totals and history, and can be exported to PDF or Excel for reconciliation and reporting.
Alerts and limits. Transaction alerts and configurable warning limits help agents catch unusual amounts.

Built for Ghana's network realities

Because USSD runs without mobile data, MoMoGram keeps working when the internet is off or unstable. That matters for agents in areas with patchy coverage.

The app runs on Android 8 and newer, including popular brands such as Samsung, Tecno, Infinix and itel. Agents do not need to buy a new device.

Your PIN stays yours

Security is likely to be the first question agents ask, and Octagram Tech addresses it directly. The company states that MoMoGram never asks for or stores the agent's PIN. Every sensitive step is confirmed by the agent directly with their mobile network, and daily records are kept locally on the agent's phone.

To automate the USSD flow, the app uses Android's Accessibility Service. According to its Google Play listing, this is switched on only when the agent starts a transaction and chooses to enable it. The listing says it is not used to read emails or passwords, monitor unrelated activity, or share data with third parties.

MoMoGram is a tool, not a bank. It does not hold customer funds or provide financial services. Transactions are carried out by the networks through their own USSD menus, and network charges and commissions remain set by each operator. The app is meant only for authorised agents with a valid Agent SIM.

Early reviews and pricing

Early feedback on Google Play has been positive, with the app holding a 5.0 rating from its first reviewers. One experienced agent praised it for speeding up cash-in and cash-out transactions, while another described it as fast and easy to use.

Agents can try every feature free for the first 30 days, with no card required. After that, the MoMoGram Agent plan costs GHS 7 a month, payable by Mobile Money, Visa or Mastercard. There are no automatic charges, and longer plans of three, six and twelve months are available, with a discount on the yearly option.
