A night security guard at Berekum Senior High School in the Bono Region has appealed for swift police investigations after he was allegedly assaulted by a group of students during an inter-school football event.

The victim, identified as Mr. Kwame Ernest, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the incident occurred on the night of Wednesday, February 11, 2028, when a group of about eight students reportedly confronted him while he was on duty.

According to Mr. Ernest, the students questioned him over his strict enforcement of school rules, particularly his efforts to prevent students from leaving the school premises during night hours. He said the confrontation quickly escalated into a violent attack.

He alleged that the students, some of whom were wearing face masks, assaulted him with pieces of wood and other offensive objects, leaving him unconscious.

“I only realised I was in the hospital when I regained consciousness,” he said weakly from his hospital bed.

Mr. Ernest was admitted to the Berekum Holy Family Catholic Hospital, where he is currently receiving medical treatment.

He further stated that he was able to identify some of the alleged attackers and has called on the police to expedite investigations and ensure that justice is served.

Mr. Ernest also confirmed that school authorities, including the headmaster of Berekum Senior High School, visited him at the hospital following the incident.

The matter has since been reported to the police, and investigations are expected to commence as calls grow for accountability and improved security measures within the school environment.
