Spanish striker Jesús de Miguel has died following a collision during a Segunda División match on Monday, his club CD Tenerife has announced.
De Miguel was injured in the closing seconds of the game against Andorra. He had been chasing the ball near the halfway line when Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono, who had come a long way out of his goal to clear it, crashed into him at speed.
Owono was shown a red card immediately and sent off for his part in the incident. The goalkeeper had begun walking off the pitch, but after seeing how serious his opponent’s injury was, he turned back and ran to him.
