John Dramani Mahama has officially commissioned the new chancery building for Ghana’s Embassy in Addis Ababa, completing a project that was first initiated in 2016.
The ceremony attracted high-level dignitaries, including Gedion Timothewos, Ethiopia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs. Members of the diplomatic corps and representatives of the Ghanaian community in Ethiopia were also present.
Strengthening diplomatic presence
The new chancery building is expected to enhance Ghana’s diplomatic operations in Ethiopia and strengthen ties between the two countries. Addis Ababa, which hosts the headquarters of the African Union, remains a key diplomatic hub on the continent.
Officials say the completion of the project reflects Ghana’s commitment to expanding its diplomatic infrastructure and improving services for its citizens abroad.
Project initiated in 2016
The chancery project was first initiated in 2016 and has now reached completion under the current administration. Government officials say the new facility will provide a modern and secure environment for diplomatic work, consular services, and engagement with international partners.
The commissioning marks another milestone in Ghana’s efforts to reinforce its diplomatic footprint and deepen cooperation with African and global institutions based in Addis Ababa.
